Patricia (Patty)'s Story

Life Hi kids! Thanks for taking a peek! Well, I've been sort of a "career student," and am working on a website that will feature some of my unpublished papers. I also worked as a mail carrier for the USPS for 11 yrs, both in TX and AZ. Graduated from University of North Texas in Dec. 1989. Moved to the Phoenix area in March 1996, then after a lot of great visits across the desert to San Diego, I moved to SD in Feb 2002, and became a court reporting/broadcast captioning student. Also took some classes in voiceover, which is related to my BA (which I've never used.) TOLD you I was a "career student!" If I ever manage to get a demo burned, I'll put that online, too! Craziest thing I ever did? SKYDIVE, BABY! 33 times!! July 1, 2005 update: Moved to northern California the end of May. I'm about 200 miles north of San Francisco (southern Humboldt County). I'm working for the Post Office again as a PMR (Postmaster Relief) for several little offices in the area. WOW! It's BEAUTIFUL up here!! I'm in redwood country; the land of the ancient trees. The Eel river (almost always a beautiful teal blue) winds through this county -- you cross it numerous times almost everywhere you go. I'm living in a cute little remodeled cabin, & I've got deer in my yard, along with a wide variety of birds. Haven't seen BIGFOOT yet, but I'll keep you posted! :-) School My public school career was spent in Lancaster, TX from DAY 1. Most irritating memory: Chuck Roundtree following me and Kyle Lloyd around the playground, pronouncing us united in "holy macaroni." Yeesh. Coolest thing about West Main Elementary: Mrs. Strickland's Fairy Tale Castle, 5th grade. Coolest thing about LMS: NOT those blue gym suits with the white stripes that the girls had to wear. Coolest thing about Lancaster E.R. High: Marion "Teddy Bear" G...Expand for more
albraith, principal. Was he fun or what? College Okay, so I'm STILL suffering from edumania (yes, I made that word up). I've been to FIVE different colleges, starting with Cedar Valley College (Lancaster), Mountain View (Dallas), then the University of N. Texas (Denton) where I got my B.A. in Radio/TV/Film. Later, I attended Mesa Community College (Mesa, AZ) and then ASU (Tempe, AZ) for a little graduate work in 2001. From 2002-2004 I was enrolled as a Court Reporting and Broadcast Captioning student in San Diego, CA --so I guess that makes SIX...July 1, 2005 update: Well, now I'm in southern Humboldt County, in northern Cali, & there ARE a couple of colleges here. The largest is HSU (Humboldt State University), & there's also the College of the Redwoods, so who knows... Workplace Well, after graduating from UNT with a B.A. in Liberal Arts, I discovered that qualified me to do things like go to work for the Post Office -- so I did. I was a Rural Mail Carrier for Grapevine/Southlake, Texas for 6 years; then Apache Junction, AZ for another 5. I always went to school at night, trying to broaden my background with the intention of getting a master's and becoming a university prof, eventually. But now I've abandoned the academic path (It's a raw deal, really) and am training to be a Court Reporter/Closed Captioner. I currently work for a large consulting firm for the hospitality industry (mystery shoppers), as well as a company that makes and sells custom shutters. So I have 2 jobs and go to school at night here in San Diego, CA. July 1, 2005 update: It's back to work for the United States Postal Service for me, here in beautiful northern California. Hope to get the "dream job" someday in the not-too-distant future: That of Postmaster of a little country Post Office. Ah, bliss...
